Sriracha Kettle Chips: A Rogue Yogi Review

Sriracha Kettle Chips, what?! Let's take a survey: 1. Do you like Sriracha Hot Sauce (with the red rooster label)? 🐔 2. Do you like Kettle Cooked Potato Chips? 🍠

If you've answered a YES to both, I've found the snack for you! It's called "The Original Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce Kettle Cooked Potato Chips" from Pop! Gourmet 😎

Huy Hong Foods, Inc is taking over the world with their signature Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce. These guys made the OG hot sauce for all Asian dishes, in my opinion. 🤓 You can recognize their brand. It's a deep red with a bright green cap/dispenser. Right in the middle is a red rooster with white bordering. The rooster is such an iconic image, though I'm not sure what it represents with this hot sauce. Maybe it means this sauce is loud and strong? I just know I've used it with every bowl of Pho, every rice+meat+veggie dish, and college-budget-style ramen noodles for years. Many of us have "grown up" with this hot sauce!

There's so much bad-assery behind this rooster and this company that I've got to share a little background with you before I get into how the chips taste.

FYI: don't confuse any other "Sriracha" for this one. There's a bunch of sauce companies that call their sauce "Sriracha" because the creator of Huy Hong Foods, David Tran, didn't trademark it. He named his hot sauce (known for its mix of vinegar, chili paste, garlic and sugar) after a town in Thailand. That's where he got inspired to make this magical condiment. He isn't going to try to trademark the name, either. It's free advertising for his company, for people to want to try the real thing. You can check the articles out here and here.

Over the past few years, Tran connected with a few legit partnerships:

-Rogue (the beer brewery, not the Rogue Yogi. Though, that'd be cool to do something with them one day)

They made a stout beer featuring the Sriracha sauce! That sh*t sold out fast!

-Pop! Gourmet: They make Sriracha Popcorn, Mayo and Hummus!

And now, with my latest discovery while walking into a Filipino grocery store:

I've had potato chips with sea salt and pepper. We've devoured dried squid with chili flavor. Stumbling upon a whole pile of these just made sense. So, we bought a bag to take home and eat rip open on the way to the parking lot and savor.

The verdict: such crispy crunchiness that kettle-cooked chips bring! Just the right amount of Sriracha to bring a sweet spiciness to the flavor. I couldn't stop eating them! The glutton in me grabbed handfuls to munch on in the car. Even though we were going to cook dinner soon, this was a necessary appetizer!

We ran out of the chips fairly quickly. They were too dope to stay for long.

I highly recommend you get your own bag. Check out your local Asian grocery store to see if they're there. If not, click on the link under my picture at the top to order them online!
