ABOUT JULIE:

Julie Tran has been intrigued with the human body since 2007. She has been studying Ashtanga, Iyengar, Power Yoga, Yin, Fascial Conditioning, Restorative Yoga, Somatics, Qi-Gong and Spirituality. So, you can tell she's developing an organic approach to strengthening ourselves inside and out.

Julie used to go a little too hard with yoga practice in the past (aka #YogaEveryDamnDay) With repetitive movements and little focus on stability and mobility, she became injured. Although she already began to add in more strength, it was too late. She was diagnosed with a rotator cuff tear, hypermobility in her shoulders and hips, and dormant trapezius and gluteal muscles.

Maybe it's not TOO late. At the age of 35, she is teaching a much more sustainable approach to physical fitness, meditation and more.

As a teacher, she has been committed to bridging the gap between Eastern Traditional "Yog" (the original word for "yoga") and Western Science. The mission: to help us benefit from the practice of Yoga safely the rest of our lives (if we want to).

Join her at the next self-exploration retreat in Bali, Indonesia and Phuket, Thailand.

ABOUT tara:

Tara Eden has been exploring movement as medicine for as long as she can remember. She believes movement is the key to a feeling of personal freedom, empowerment, creativity and peace of mind.

For over 20 years Tara has studied various components of movement: Using the Body as a Tool of Expression and Communication (BFA in Theater), Movement for Self-Empowerment & Breath-led Movement (Ashtanga Practitioner), Movement as Therapy (Certificate in Dance/Movement Therapy), for Physical Fitness and Wellbeing (Yoga Teacher, RYT 500) and Awareness Through Movement™ (Feldenkrais Method™).

While based in New York City, Tara taught vinyasa and hatha yoga in boutique (Kula Yoga Project) and local studios (Shambhala Yoga & Dance) and brought it to the Hasidic Jewish community, inner-city middle school, private high school and all kinds of private homes.

Tara’s fascination with the body prompted her to learn Thai Massage and begin her practice. Years later she relocated to Thailand to study with Master Pichest Boonthumme.

Today Tara practices Integrated Bodywork which helps the receiver illuminate their “dark areas” that create chronic tension (body & mind), facilitating deep relaxation, body awareness and more comfortable and efficient movement and/or breathing patterns.

After years of intensive anatomy studies and frustrated by anatomy classes that were boring, disjointed or based on a 2-dimensional, non-moving image of the body, Tara designed her own Embodied Anatomy course. Using one’s own embodiment/body awareness as a guide, students learn to understand the complexities of the body in a way that is relevant, fun and memorable.

Tara offers her course to various groups including YTT 200 & Advanced Yoga Teacher Training Programs. Tara produced her company, The Somatic Movement Project, as an amalgamation of all of her body and movement study and experience. It is an educational resource for movement and bodywork modalities that deepen awareness, provoke curiosity and promote presence of being.

Currently based in Chiang Mai, Thailand, Tara’s project constantly evolves. She teaches workshops and classes in Somatic Movement, Awareness Through Movement™ and Somatic Yoga (building asana from sensory awareness and functional body architecture) internationally.

She created and leads an immersion program, “Learning to Listen” which is an intensive introduction and exploration of Somatic Movement, broken into modules, held twice annually.

Tara also offers a Yoga Teacher Mentorship Program working one-on-one with yoga teachers wanting to sharpen their skills and improve their ability to offer creative, sophisticated, unique and innovative classes. She also offers private Awareness Through Movement™ lessons and Integrated Bodywork sessions.
